Papers of James Andrew Riddick [manuscript], 1837-1849, 1899.

A 2-volume diary (original copy and on microfilm) of the Rev. James Andrew Riddick, covering his preaching missions on the Prince Edward Circuit in Virginia and on the Elizabeth City Circuit in North Carolina. Some notes refer to sermons preached in Charlottesville and Scottsville, Albemarle County, among other Virginia towns. Riddick often discusses his desire to reform his life and "abandon bad habits" often noting his lack of success in such endeavors. Also included are 6 letters to Riddick and 1 newspaper clipping, an obituary of Riddick in the Petersburg Daily Index-Appeal.

James Andrew Riddick, b. September 13, 1810, near Sunsbury, N.C., d. 1899, Petersburg, Va. As a youth, moved to Suffolk, Va., to become a clerk in his brother-in-law's mercantile establishment.
